About Ernst-Jan Pfauth
Hi there, thanks for stopping by at Dutchproblogger.com. I’m Ernst-Jan Pfauth, 24-year old guy from Amsterdam and obsessed with blogging. I’m working for Dutch newspaper nrc.next and writing a book about blogging for publisher Thomas Rap (September 2010).
Here are the coolest things I’ve done in my career so far (in chronological order):
Filming a fight between the Prime Minister and a famous journalist (Oct 2006)
Four days after I started my first blog Spotlight Effect, I filmed the Dutch Prime Minister Balkenende while he was arguing with famous journalist Paul Witteman. This post made it to the national news and I fell in love with the power of blogging.
Reporting at the United Nations in New York (Jan 2007)
I interned at a press agency to cover news at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Had a double life there – from shaking hands with Bill Clinton to roaming the sleazy rock bars of the Lower East Side. Also decided to go back to NYC every year.
14 months of geeky rock ‘n’ roll with The Next Web (Nov 2007)
My times as the editor in chief of The Next Web, a European tech blog which attracts 6,000 readers a day, were a blast. I like to call it geeky rock ‘n’ roll, since we traveled the world for web parties (nerds have a decadent lifestyle, trust me), always wore white suits, and at the same time, built a great blog.
Winning a Dutch Bloggie with Spotlight Effect (March 2008)
My first blog Spotlight Effect evolved to a career magazine for people who don’t dig the 9-to-5-scenario. In March 2008, we won the blogging award of the nation. Here’s a video of our celebration.
Organizing an international blog conference (Oct 2008)
My friend Edial Dekker and I wanted to meet our blogging heroes, so we flew over Hugh MacLeod (GapingVoid), Pete Cashmore (Mashable), and Loren Feldman (1938Media) to Amsterdam for an international blog conference called BLOG08. We also asked a rock band to perform. Here’s a video their opening song.
Selling my blogging soul to dead trees (Jan 2009)
That’s what my blogging friends said when I told them I’d work for Dutch quality newspaper nrc.next. But hey, my favorite news medium asked me to start a blog for them, how could I possibly resist that?
And how cool is this: in December 2009 – seven months after we started – the nextblog was awarded with Dutch Bloggies for the ‘best news blog’ and ‘best blog of 2009′. Here’s a video interview, right after I got off the stage – all excited.
Writing it all down in a book (Sept 2010)
I’m currently writing a book about blogging for publisher Thomas Rap (part of de Bezige Bij), which will be published in September 2010.
